Pastor Kinney was born into a Roman Catholic family but was saved at the age of 19 while he was stationed aboard a U.S. Navy ship in the Mediterranean Sea. After his salvation and while still in the Navy he met Carol and they were married on January 17, 1978. The Lord has blessed them with three children, Matt, Brad and Charlotte.

He graduated from Bible College in May of 1985 and received an honorary doctor of divinity degree in May of 1997.

On June 15, 1986, he became the second pastor of Temple Baptist Church. Since that time the church has more than doubled in attendance and gone from supporting 5 missionaries to 57 missionary families, institutions, and projects. Today many of our Academy students have been sent to Bible colleges and are now serving in the Gospel ministry. Mrs. Kinney serves as a high school teacher at the Academy and plays the piano during most church services.
